I am 68 years old. I have never shaved with an electric razor, except as a teenage when messing around with my father's. I used a Gillette Trac razor for a year or two, from 18 to 20, perhaps, before disposables were marketed. I shaved with the Gillette (and any disposables) in the shower or sink, but without using lather. Three years ago, I switched to safety razor wet-shaving. My favorite became the Merkur 34C. A year ago,, having heard enough to convince me that it would be a wise purchase, I bought the Rockwell 6C. Right away, because of how smoothly you can get it to perform, using the right plate(s) (according to your growth and/or whisker strength). I've never had a bad shave with it, even when using worn blades. Before purchasing the Rockwell 6S, the 6C was my most pleasant, most effective safety razor was the Rockwell 6C. Now, in terms of the above criteria, they are both my most valued razors. I like the extra weight and the not so slippery feel of the stainless steel 6S, though some prefer the slightly more glide effect of the chrome-plated 6C.
The Rockwell 6S And the Rockwell 6C are both truly excellent safety razors. There are more expensive safety razors out there, but why bother to spend the $150.00 more than the 6S that they generally cost, when perfect shaves are experienced with the $50.00 6C or the $85.00 to $99.00 6S???
I am nothing but glad to have what many and I strongly believe to be the best model of safety razor available. I have nothing even remotely related to a regret regarding buying either the 6C or the 6S. It Will be rare for you to find any user of the 6C or 6S have any regret(s).
I bought this to replace a Merkur Futur, another pricey razor that broke within 5 years of use (one of the top wire springs that holds the top on broke off due to failure of the pot metal/zinc alloy that holds the springs in place).
The Rockwell razors are 'adjustable', so safe for a new shaver to start with, though I will probably just find which plate is the best for me and stick with it (5 most likely).
The head is small which makes it nice for edging hairlines and also would probably be good for the upper lip if you shave there. The dull sides of the blade do protrude from the sides of the razor head, but this is a feature, not a bug, as it gives you a place to securely grasp the razor when picking it up and you can avoid cutting your fingers on the blade edge.
Overall, seems unassuming which it is, a sturdy lifetime razor (they sell replacement parts if something were to break) that provides a very nice shave, is good for edging hairlines, and IMHO is better than the Merkur Futur it replaced (another highly rated razor, though that one can fail like mine did, and the head is large making it a bit harder to use in certain areas).
FYI the stainless steel Rockwell is USA made, the $50 plated versions are made in China. Nothing wrong with that, but if you want a lifetime purchase I would spend the extra money now rather than decide in the future you want to best razor Rockwell makes. Before purchasing I did look at a round of reviews, nobody who reviewed the Rockwell didn't like it, though some prefer the cheaper Chinese plated version as it has less friction than the bead blasted stainless finish.
Having used it, I will say that the 6S glides fine, you would probably have to shave back to back with both versions of the Rockwell to notice any difference.
This is an awesome safety razor - I've had Merkurs... Edwin Jaggers (like them as well), and recently I tried the Feather stainless steel one (~$170) and it fell short so I returned it...this just blows that away for half the price... I find the #3 (performs like the EJ) and #4 ("goldilocks" perfect) plates cover most shaving needs for me. And while there is some heft -it's in a really good way; and it's balanced perfectly..for $85 it's money well spent! I doubt you'll find this at a better price - anywhere.
Having several high quality DE razors and having tried many, many razors, blades, brushes, etc. I am very happy with the Rockwell 6S Razor! I love it. Solid stainless, quality in every part, adjustable shaves via the included three various heads. I also use a couple of different adjustable razors which have the adjustment built in via turning the handle which is more convenient than swapping heads and having multiple heads in my cabinet. That said I only use one razor top pending the length of scruff or beard and it’s more a set it and forget it type use. I’ve used it only a couple of times as per this review so if anything changes I will update. What I can say is I was afraid it wasn’t as advertised with regard to its solid top quality stainless and craftsmanship and I was extremely excited to see Rockwell built a flagship razor that holds up the expectations anyone would have after using their Swedish made razor blades themselves. I have a few Feather razors and blades, top Merkur razors, etc etc. having used the feather blades for years, they are through my experience the sharpest and thinnest out there. The Feather blades are great for me for a single use. Given the cost of a single blade when buying saying a pack of 100 or 200 blades, it’s worthwhile to me to have a fresh blade for my once or twice a week shave. I’ve always noticed the “tea” stain with a feather blade in my feather razor. I have tried over a hundred blades and the Rockwell Swedish blades are by far my favorite. They do not rust! They last the longest of any blade I’ve used and they work as well in any brand or type of DE razor. I highly recommend trying both their Swedish top quality blades and of course their 6S razor system!
For years I owned and used an old Gillette adjustable (more than 50 years). In February I bought A VIKINGS Crusader Adjustable Safety Razor. It was almost the same as my Gillette Adjustable but The adjustment level you could not count on. It could be A 4 or A 5 OR A 3. There was no position indicator. Thus sometimes I received A raw shave or even A nick.. Also I do not believe the blade was held in place enough or maybe not close enough to the edge of the blade. So I tried this new SS razor. It is the first time that I have ever used A razor where you had to change the head to fix the angle of the blade . Upon receiving the razor I practiced changing the heads A couple times. It was easy.Every morning I shave my face. Every other day I shave my head Too. (yah ! God gave me two faces just in case I didn't like the first) I use two different adjustment. A 4 for my face and A 2 for my second face (head) . The head exchange was easy and the shave was close and with ease. Incedently the razor has the same balance as my old Gillette Adjustable. This Is A Keeper. This all SS razor is well made and with good balance. Oh one other thing I polished all the components of this razor using rouge A buffing wheel and all driven on my drill. The razor looks even better now. It looks as if it were chrome plated. My wife thinks it is almost as good looking as I am.... She has A since of humor

I purchased this razor on Friday evening and received it on Sunday afternoon. I had a two weeks of facial hair growth and I was ready to see if this razor lived up to the hype. I used a Feather razor blade and set the razor to R-4, and I was sold with the first stroke. The razor effortlessly removed all of my facial hair, leaving my skin silky smooth. Usually after I shave I experience cuts and bleeding of some sort, irritation, redness, and razor bumps. However, this time was different. My face was free of these unsightly blemishes; I had not one spec of redness on my face, nor did I bleed even a drop. I didn't think a shave of this magnitude was possible. I'm glad I decided to make the jump and buy the 6s.
I have been using a cheap decent non adjustable safety razor for years. I finally decided to get this. I cannot stress enough the importance of adjustability for shaving. If don't have a adjustable razor or a dozens of different non-adjustable razors, chances are you not having the best shave you could have. Besides all that, the razor has a great finish. I like the weight. It's heavy. I didnt want to get the first impression wrong so I have not tried the rockwell blades that comes with it. There are some mixed reviews about those blades. So I first tried the razor with Astra Blades which I find to be sharp and smooth. Awesome shave experience.
This is quite simply the best razor I have ever used. Firstly, I have mild sensitivity to razors and shaving. I started off with a Viking Chieftain. I had some good and bad luck with it. I started off using a feather blade, and the aggressiveness of the razor really cut me up on my neck and left me uncomfortable. I switched to Astra Blades, and I was able to get a very good shaving experience. Nice and close. After I got better at using a safety razor, I went back to my Feather Blades, and was able, with some serious care, get a decent shave. A friend of mine recomended the Rockwell 6C, and I decided to splurge on the 6S. Got my 6S today, popped in a Feather Blade. I started off with the number 2 plate. Shave was smooth, and did not irritate my skin. Decided to go up to the number 3 plate, and WOW! This is what I have been missing. No discomfort, no nicks, and the closest shave I have EVER had! Simply amazing! I would not hesitate for a second to recommend this razor to a friend. If you decide to splurge like I did, you will have the most amazing razor that should last a lifetime! Really love this razor!
I typically do not write product feedbacks. However, every once in a (long) while, I will make a purchase that far exceeds my expectation….. That's when I will share the find with others. I started DE razor shaving several years ago. First, it was with the Merkur Futurs and moved on to the infamous Feather AS-D2. Have been using the AS-d2 for the last year and a half. Recently, I read about the Rockwell S6 and debated whether I should give it a try or not. Just shaved with it for the first time this morning and was unexpectedly happy to find that I like it far better than the Feather razor. It felt more solid and provided a closer shave (still using the same Astra blades) than the AS-D2. If you are hesitant about purchasing it, I'd highly recommend that you give it a try......
I had another safety razor before a MERKUR Futur Adjustable. It was slippery, and had a over sized head that made shaving under my nose hard. The Rockwell 6s resolves both of these issues. I don't miss the adjustment on the handle, I find the Rockwell #4 plate works well for me. I do wish the handle was a little longer or a long handle was available but all in I'm pretty happy.
