Ring Spotlight Cam Battery HD Security Camera with Built Two-Way Talk and a Siren Alarm, Black, Works with Alexa

I have a Ring pro on my front door and loved it so much that I wanted something for the back patio since I have contracts (lawn, pool, trees, etc) in my backyard. My challenge however is that all the walls on the patio are either stucco or rock, which makes it near impossible to run a hidden power line. So I opted for this option and so far it works great. The lights are pretty bright and the motion detection works as expected.

As for the battery life, it has been in for a couple weeks and it has lost about 10% battery. So I’m guessing it will last about 3 months before it needs a charge. I just ordered a second battery which should double that battery life.

The connection is very quick, it seems to connect much faster than my front door, but in fairness it is closer to the wireless router.

As for installation, I installed it using the provided screws into the frame of my patio door. It actually works perfect there because you can’t really see it and allows me to perfectly position it for motion detection.

My only complaint is the motion zone setup. Unlike the ring pro where I can “draw” motion zones (which significantly helps reduce motion alerts), it only allows you to specify a distance. It really isn’t very intuitive, so I just leave it at mid-range and it seems to work just fine for now.

Beware, in order to have video playback, you do have to subscribe to the ring premium service. And you have to have a subscription per device! I have it for my front door, not sure I’m gonna pay for the back door. That was kind of a bummer to find out I’d have to pay more. It should be a household subscription.

Overall, I’m very happy with the device and would recommend it to anyone looking for an easy to install solution without wires.

I read many of the reviews and almost did not purchase the camera because of them. However, after making the decision to buy two and using them for the past 3 weeks, I have been very pleased. Prior to my purchase I owned a RING doorbell, and since I have purchased a RING floodlight cam. All of my cameras work extremely well.

I wanted to address the comments some people are making about these cameras as I think they are a little inaccurate. The battery life is not poor. I have two cameras on the back of my house and they ran on the original battery for 3 weeks. To ease concerns about poor battery life, I have had my cameras set on the standard motion detection setting and 3 weeks is pretty good. Additionally, each camera holds two batteries so ideally you can get up to 6 weeks without changing the batteries at all. We have a lot of deers, rabbits, etc in addition to our dog so our motions probably go off more than the average household.

As far as video quality, these work well at night and in the day. I watch my kids in our backyard when they walk the dog at night, and I'm able to see them fine. If you want high def like watching a movie then sure, the video quality is not up to that standard. However, if you want to see if anyone is trying to break into your house or simply monitor your yard when you're home or not at home, it is perfectly fine.

In terms of motion sensitivity, there are two settings that allow you to control the sensitivity. I think some of the reviews were a little misleading and perhaps they did not familiarize themselves with the app. There is a setting that basically lets you set the motion distance from the camera that you will pick up alerts. There is also an additional setting that let's you change the sensitivty with three settings that are equivalent to a high, standard, and low. I find these work just as well as my Ring floodlight.

At the end of the day if you want all of your cameras to be in the same product family, or you just want to install some motion lights with the hassle of having to get a hard power line to them, I think these are great. Installation only took me about 15-20 minutes per camera, and part of that was adjusting the field of view of the cameras to my liking.

I would highly recommend these cameras.

Wow! I had no idea so much happens outside my front door! We've captured deer, birds building nests in my door wreath, a fox trying to get in the front door and even raccoons and stray cats wandering on our front porch, not to mention our guests whom I can speak to from other locations. If someone is up to no good, I can sound the alarm from my cell phone. We also can monitor the live feed from our Alexa. We upgraded and purchased the yearly subscription to save all our videos. With two batteries it lasts well over a month of charge. This camera works great and is very responsive. The angle of recording is large enough to capture almost 180. We purchased a second camera to cover our pool and added solar panels to keep it charged. It is great at capturing motion before anyone gets even close to the pool. Great when you have little ones or pets who somehow always find ways to go where they're not suppose to.

Updated Review:
Received a new camera from Ring. Setup this past weekend and it has been great so far. A lot different and better results from my first go with Ring.
I had upgraded my network devices, modem and router. No more drops or freezing. Worked with Alexis from Ring support and she has been great!!
The camera works flawless.

Love the freedom of wireless, the solar panels work great and only need a couple of hours of sunlight per day to keep the batteries topped off. Video quality is great and I've got eyes on the whole yard now. Just picked up 3 of these beauties. Simply system anyone can install and operate. Thank You Ring!!

I bought a camera system a few years ago with a hard drive a 4 wired cameras. Wires all over the house and you need a PHD in programming to get the system to work. It ended up in the trash without ever making a single recording. Ring just makes it all doable for the average Non PHD humans...

We have this camera for the backyard and also the ring doorbell for the front door. We got the doorbell first and think it does the job. It is not the best nor is it the worst. Now the camera for the backyard is very nice. We got it as a safety precaution because we felt someone had used the pool while we were away and did not want that to be a safety issue. As you can see in these live pictures I just took that it covers pretty much the whole yard and you can zoom into areas on the app with your finger. Also pictured. We have the sensor set Just right to capture the movement in the backyard. At night when motion is detected the lights fire up to record. There is also an option to push an alarm on the light. It’s not super loud but loud enough for the neighbors to hear and scare persons away. I have also included a screenshot of the app view of the ring items we have.

I would recommend this camera but really recommend using the solar panel with the camera and not have to worry about taking the battery out to charge it.

Update #2 With the solar panel or the charging cable you can buy from Amazon the battery issue goes completely away. Now you're left with a great camera, I have several.
Update, the battery only lasts 2 weeks. Beware, the spotlight cam wired has a 20-foot molded cable. The mount is the one that is actually wired. The camera works well, but the battery does not. when I went to order a different solution the website is very misleading. you may want to watch some customer installation videos to get an idea.

Awesome camera. Bought it off the treasure truck. Hopefully they will have this again.

This is very easy to install and the video quality is very good. The only thing that I do not like is that the battery version of the spotlight camera does not have the custom motion zones like the floodlight and the spotlight-wired cameras. I turned the sensitivity way down but it still picks up cars that drive by in my cul-de-sac sometimes. I am going to have to play with it some more. I had to move one of the wireless access points in my house closer to the garage because the signal was weak when i first installed it. I also ordered the extra battery, it only comes with one. I wasn't able to find the extra battery on Amazon, but Home Depot and some other stores sell them.

This is my 3rd product that I bought from Ring, I have the doorbell 2, and the chime. I needed a camera for my back door and this fit the bill exactly. it was so easy to install and i love the new rechargeable battery it makes everything so easier. i looked into several companies security companies for a similar product like ADT, Comcast Xfinity, ATT etc.. and they all were so overpriced and there monthly fees are outrageous when this camera price if u spread out over 12 months is way cheaper with no contracts whatsoever. very simply for a mom like me to install and watch tru my phone app. I love the Ring.

All in all a excellent product. There was definitely a learning curve in optimizing the wifi signal strength and the purchase of a second Ring Chime Pro (I already had a video Door Bell 2 and a Chime Pro.) The reason I still give a five star is I suspect the issue is more with my router/wifi hub than the Ring products. The instructions and short videos are clear and accurate. The two times I called customer service I received prompt, knowledgeable and courteous assistance as well as a no fuss quick replacement for the initial Ring 2 I purchased from a third party when the motion detection did not work.
