Love this set.

The product photo doesn't truly capture how great the Petit Collage Dinnerware is. You have to see and feel it for yourself to appreciate the unique material that makes this a high quality set. It's made of sustainable bamboo, a material I'm a great fan of and have all around my house. Bamboo is durable and does not break easily. This set is no exception. It feels much stronger than any nasty plastic dish and given I'm slowly eliminaing plastics from my own kitchen collection, it's nice to see more and more bamboo-made items being made available.

The dinosaur motif is a charming, playful 2D design that has a throwback 1960s feel. Everything has a melamine weight and texture, but it is in fact toxic-free and non-plastic. You get the same smooth, durable feel but without the chemical hazards. It's also easy to clean and store.

It comes in a distinctive rope-handled box printed with soy inks, so this company appears to be committed to providing safe non-toxic products all the way down to their packaging. I think this would make a wonderful baby shower gift as it looks and feels like high quality dinnerware and it is not gender-specific.

I am reviewing a Dinnerware Set, Dinosaur-themed, by Petit Collage that I received at no cost through the Amazon Vine program.

My three-year-old liked this dinner set from the moment she saw it. If I had taken video you would see her asking for each piece, admiring it, and even trying to shout into the cup to see what her voice sounds like. The point is, she knew this was a kid's set, and as the baby of the family she knew it was hers. She's used at least two pieces every day since we got it (which requires some hand-washing, but hey she's happy).

I was a little leery of the bamboo, wondering if it would soak up water and split like our bamboo utensils have. So far, so good - the construction is such that it seems like water cannot get in but I know that at some point our 3-year-old will test the aerodynamic properties of the dinnerware set and we'll have to see how it survives.

The design is really clever. The plate is more like a very shallow bowl, which helps her to push food with the fork against the side. The cup is big enough she has to use both hands, which I prefer. The fork and spoon are both smaller, and the fork has had an easy time with everything except lettuce (which she eats by hand anyway).

Five stars for a well-designed set that my kid actually likes

Many of the reviews use the same words - cute and adorable. And I can't argue.

Well packaged, environmentally conscious, and unfortunately priced accordingly. A bit of a steep price for something designed for kids though. Seems sturdy, sealed, and hopefully will last a while, but they tell you to inspect it before use. I've had bamboo products before, which are nice for the eco friendly feeling, but weren't so nice for actual regular use. But this seems far better prepared for actual use than those did, feeling more like a plastic than a bamboo item.

The higher sides of the plate are ideal for kids who still prefer pushing food against something else to hold it in place while they get the utensils under it. I don't use the dishwasher so this gets hand washed anyway, so I'm good that way.

Pricey, but makes a great gift for new eco conscious parents.

We really this set but more importantly our toddler loves it. While she eats her food she points at the whimsical drawings. She even learned to say “Fox” thanks to the drawings.

It’s really cool that the items in the set are biodegradable yet super durable at the same time. Our biggest complaint is the comical size of the monstrous bowl. Unlike the plate which is intelligently designed with a lip to make sure that food does not spill from the sides, the bowl is just too big. It would even be a large soup bowl for an adult, and it is just too big for little hands to reach into. When she reaches her hand into the bowl, she tends to make it tip over.

We wish the bowl was a quarter or even a third of the size. If it were half as big, it would still be too big.

This is too bad because the rest of the set is great. The spoon and fork are a little clunky but they are functional.

Recommended with the caveat about the bowl.

Description

Petit Collage Where Design Meets Play

I have an Avent plate set I liked and have used with both children but the Petit Collage set works better with older children.

Petit Collage Pros:
No plastics used making me feel better when serving warm food
The plate in this set isn't sectioned making it more like a grown up plate
Tall edge on the plate allows children to use it to push food onto their spoon or fork
The set includes a cute matching cup
The bowl in this set is larger/deeper allowing more food to be placed in it and less spills when eating cereal with milk
Overall this is better for older children (Perhaps 3+)

Where they are about the same
Both have cute and gender neutral designs that are appealing to small children.
The plates of both hold the same amount of food
They are both equally as bad in the fork and spoon set included with both are both pretty useless unless they are eating rice mush (we use Gerber Graduates Kiddy Cutlery instead)

Avent Set Pros:
Sectioned plate makes it easier to divide different foods
Non-skid bottom coating keeps bowl and plate from slipping around (and keeps them from easily being pushed off the table's edge just for fun)
This set is better for children just learning to feed themselves
I’ve washed the set occasionally in the top rack of the dishwasher and they have held up well- though most of the time I DO hand wash them

this Petit Collage Dinnerware Set of World Animals is so beautiful and feels wonderful to touch. The material is bamboo fiber, and it's so finely polished/ milled/ moulded that it feels nearly like touching a matte talc surface. The information on the back of the very beautiful box with rope handle says that the set is biodegradable, has no plastics, is non-toxic and good for hot and cold foods and liquids. The dishes are thick, lightweight and durable feeling, and are okay for the top rack of the dishwasher, but they recommend "hand washing for longevity." These dishes are not microwave safe, but i'd think it would be safer to prepare and heat foods somewhere else first, so there are not hot spots for a child. The cup, bowl and rimmed plate are ample in size for good portions as your child grows, and the spoon and fork are lightly curved and safe feeling. The animal designs are lovely and the world map informative. This is a beautiful set that I would not hesitate to get for my loved ones.

My kiddo absolutely loves this set. She received the traditional "big girl set" of dishes on her first birthday, but we've been needing an upgrade to a more suitable and properly-sized dish set just for her. This hit the sweet spot for her and she always requests her dino-bowl at meal or snack time. She loves her little juice/water cup, as well.
The only thing I wasn't crazy about, and in fact, we got rid of them, was the utensils. They were tiny and more baby-sized than toddler size. The fork was more spork than fork and it just didn't serve the purpose well. I also really love the feel of these dishes. They remind me of stoneware but are plastic. They have texture but are smooth. It's strange but excellent for little hands to grip when wet or greasy or covered in ketchup.
Overall, I love this set and it will be my new go-to for those first birthday gifts.

omg cute cute cute cute CUTE!!! I mean, I knew the set was going to be cute from the photos, but it's really something else. That said, I don't know that I'd suggest the set for everyday use. It's not microwave safe, can be washed only on the top-shelf of the dishwasher (or hand washed, ideally), and they even suggest inspecting for damage before use... hmm. Given the adorable packaging (complete with a cotton rope handle) and the high price point, I'd say this set is best as a gift rather than as something to use daily.

That in mind, this is an adorable gift. ADORABLE!! The design is great, the packaging is lovely, and the set feels great in your hands. I just wouldn't suggest using it for every meal.

This is such a cute little dining set - my son loves it and I love the way it looks and feels (a little more fragile than a normal kids' set and a lot lighter). The only issue is that it is not fully dishwasher/microwave safe. That makes sense for the design and the way it is made and you're really going for looks over usefulness with a nice set like this, but it means it can only be used when we're ready to spend some extra time doing dishes - and as anyone with two kids at home (both under 3) knows, that's not very often. Still, go in knowing that about them and you'll be more than satisfied with the product.
