I bought six of the Nucleus intercoms, one for each bedroom, one for the kitchen and one for the home office. I am planning on sending one to each set of grandparents when they are back in stock.
I got the Nucleus intercoms partly because they looked like a really cool gadget and partly because they solved a problem with my current house. My house does not have a built-in intercom system, even though it is wired for whole-house audio and CAT5.
I had a Nutone system in a previous house, but adding it to this house would have meant running new wiring. There is no easy way to get wiring to the second floor, where most of the bedrooms are located. I've also had a commercial telephone system with intercom (a Panasonic TDA50) in a previous house, but that would be fairly expensive and my wife hated it.
That left RF-based wireless intercoms as the only option, but these haven't worked well for me in the past.
The Nucleus intercom solves my problem by offering connectivity through both WiFi and wired networking.
Installation was pretty easy. I swapped out the wall mounts for the stands, because I haven't figured out the placement yet. The software configuration was straightforward. After choosing the WiFi network, which was a little sluggish, you're given the option of creating a Nucleus account or adding a new intercom to your home. You need to create a Nucleus account with your first intercom. You'll then receive a Home Code by email that you can use to add subsequent intercoms easily. (You will need to approve the addition of each intercom by clicking on a link in an email message that is sent to you as part of the setup.)
One of the intercoms got wedged during the picture taking process, but power-cycling the device fixed that. They currently don't allow you to bypass the picture-taking process during the initial setup. But, you can easily change the picture later.
Installation on my mobile phone was easy. There's an option to send an email message with instructions to your phone (no texting option, unfortunately), but it gets wedged if you use the same email address used to create the Nucleus account. You actually don't need this email message. Just download the App from the Apple or Android App stores and use the Nucleus account and Home Code to add it to your intercom network.
The video on the Nucleus is a little dark because the rooms in my house have room lighting on the ceiling in the center of the room, so your face is backlit when you use the intercom. Turning on a lamp near the intercom seems to fix this.
Alexa is a nice bonus. We already have an Amazon Echo and two Echo Dots, but the Nucleus gives us Alexa throughout the house.
There are a bunch of minor issues, such as the inability to page a group of rooms (e.g., to tell the kids to come downstairs for dinner) and the inability to schedule the Do Not Disturb mode during sleeptime. But, I expect the software will improve over time, just like Alexa.
My kids like the Nucleus a lot.
This is a great and straight-up AMAZING product. I have had eight devices for about six months now. I use them to replace an ancient Nutone intercom system in several rooms of my mid-century house. My Nucleus devices are connected by POE (Ethernet 6) so there are no dangling wires.
But, this is far more than just an intercom system. I recently installed Ring Video Doorbell Pro which is Nucleus compatible so now I can also answer the doorbell from almost every room in the house. Nucleus and Alexa keep improving so this is very much an evolving product with new capabilities almost every day.
I have been using the Nucleus since early March and have been impressed with how responsive the team has been in finding important updates.
We already have an Echo, and recently added the Echo Show. But it is the Nucleus that will remain by my husband's bedside. For anyone whose loved one still carries a flip phone, who needs simple to make things work, you will LOVE the Nucleus to stay in touch. The visible, easy to use buttons make this ideal.
Grandma forgetting your name? No problem, since there is a photo as well as your name. And, if she forgets how to answer, you can set it (for family) to automatically answer. Even better, there is a check in feature without a ring you can use at night or during the day to make sure she is safe.
OK, maybe you don't have a disabled husband or aging parent, understand that all of these features work perfectly with small children as well. I truly wish I had one back when my daughter was in school!
I do personally love some features of the new Echo Show, but this does exactly what I really need, make communication with my husband a cinch when I am away from home, or even in the back yard.
One of the units stoped working . Unit well not turn on at all. But I'm very happy it did I e-mailed my problem and boy what a great experience it was there customer service is the best I've ever had . Lady named Kati handled the whole thing. She e-males a return shipping label and a new one was here next day befor I shipped the old one back . She also talked me through how to setup the new one and any person that can get a 83 year old grouchy man to understand is great ! Would I recommend this to my family Yep! Will I order more of them through Amazon heck yes X -mas is coming
My wife and I just hired a new babysitter while we're at work and we were looking into different options for ways to communicate with her and the kids while we're gone. We bought some Foscams and we ended up returning them because we couldn't talk to the kids when they got home from school, the picture quality was blurry, and we could not get it to connect to the wi-fi. We replaced that system with the Nucleus and we are so happy we did. Not only was it super easy to install and connect with the wi-fi, but it gave us peace of mind to be able to speak with the sitter and the kids and actually see what was going on while we were gone. My *only* complaint is that the desk stand angle is not great, but I'm ok with that given the other good qualities.

Description
Nucleus is a family communication device that connects you with the people you love, whether they’re downstairs or across the country.
So happy to have found an intercom system like Nucleus! Makes it simple for my kiddos to reach me when they need to and I'm able to monitor home when working. Not having a landline at home + we are not ready for our kids to have access to a cell phone - it is a simple way for our kids to touch a button and get in touch with us. Kids loved that they can call us anytime.
At home we have a set of three strategically placed in the house - and when we are all home there is no more yelling up the stairs!
Setup was simple and clear. Thanks Nucleus!
What an amazing product from a fantastic company! There is so much positive energy coming from this company. In every interaction I've had with them I've sensed that I'm really valued as their customer and as many of the other reviews show, this is how they make most if not all of their customers feel. The customer experience has been incredible starting with getting the product way before the Amazon listed availability date, beautiful packaging, super simple setup of the product, simple, slick and responsive user interface, great features, premium quality finish and ongoing interactive training of the customer with a new email every week or so highlighting a cool feature of the product.
The product is a whole new category of product that didn't exist before Nucleus and that's exciting! This must have been what it was like to be among the first customers to have iphone. What's even more exciting is you're not just getting the product the way it is now (which even if you were, it could be considered a revolutionary product). You're getting a great product now that will just keep getting better as it's integrated with more apps and as Alexa's skills grow and as more features are enabled.
Well done Nucleus!
I chose this device (bought two) as my elderly mother lives at home with me and I needed something to keep an eye on her. She has no idea how to use the easiest cell phone out there and I ditched my land line many years ago, so I was running out of options in how to communicate with her while at work and during business trips. I don't remember how I found the Nucleus, but boy, am I VERY happy I did! I cannot say that everything about it is perfect, but the customer service is the BEST I have ever run across in a very long time. There is no 800 number to call, but if you e-mail support, they contact you within 30 minutes or so, even in the evening. There are some glitches that from what I understand will be taken care of by the end of September, like having to have the phone app open in order for the device (s) to see it, somewhat poor picture quality that will get better when software is updated. The video can only be seen vertically not horizontally on the iPhone. The sound quality is good, as my mom is hard of hearing so that was important to me. It is also Alexa enabled, though I have not tried my Echo with it yet. All in all I am very happy with my purchase and I have no doubt the developers well do everything they said they will do to enhance my purchase even more. If you have to look in on an elderly person, I highly recommend getting two or more.
I've had my Nucleus for some time now and I must say this definitely was a great buy! It was suppose to be a Christmas gift but I couldn't wait. I live about 5hrs away from home but its been a great tool to stay connected and visually interact with my family and especially my nieces. Some might say just video chat or skype. Which is also a great option but this device makes things so much easier.
At times the monitor might give the effect that the room is a bit dark but not a huge issue. Overall great product and i recommend it.
Spent a few days with the device.. between the other reviews and the product video, I can confirm it works as advertized. It could definitely use a few tweaks.
Out of the blue, the CEO emails me and asks me what I think of the product. I email him back with several suggestions for improvement including video quality and he informed me they will have an OTA update that will improve things. The company is clearly trying their best to keep customers happy and deliver a useful product.
