This was an Amazon Warehouse deal. I was a little leery about buying an item that had been returned, but I thought the new ones were a bit overpriced. The vent was packaged very well with no signs of damage. The vent was however slightly bent on the back where it mounts to the wall. A couple of taps with a rubber hammer and you could never tell where it was formerly bent.
This vent is made from aluminum so the time to paint it is before it's mounted. Wipe it down with some white vinegar, dry it off, and spray paint it the desired color. The paint should last a lifetime without peeling. This trick works for aluminum gutters also.
Robust all metal vent. I used it to wall vent a range hood and it works great. Heads up that it does not have a spring on the flapper so it must be mounted level, or better yet, slightly up hill so it will stay closed when not in use. Also it is bare galvanized steel and must be properly prepared if you're going to paint it.
Works great for my needs. It was fairly easy to cut with a rotary tool. The damper opens right up when air is flowing and shuts (via gravity not a spring) when the air is not flowing.
Serviceable hood duct cap bought as a replacement for dented, painted, deteriorated hood. Easy installation, looks great. Installed less than theee weeks, so can't comment on wear, but would anticipate long life. Price was okay, given the quality; not a GREAT desl
Next time I need a vent it will be one like this. Not only does it work well, but it will not dry rot in the desert sunshine. I also was able to modify it with a bird guard that I attached with rivets.

Description
Air King PWC8R 22 gauge galvanized steel range hood wall cap with backdraft damper effectively exhausts air from the home using 8" round ducting.
Good quality steel, well made, cover, easy to install.
Works well, the vent stub is a little long but I will cut that shorter when I fit the hood. The flap keeps things out but is not spring loaded, so you can hear it flap in the wind a little. i put some mesh over the opening to keep criters out.
Have had this wall cap installed for several months now without any issues. I also painted it to match the color of the siding. Occaisionally if the wind is strong enough it will rattle around the damper which you can hear inside (my duct run goes directly out the wall so very short). I do understand some people have put a little foam rubber around the perimeter to reduce the noise but it does not bother me at all.
This piece was exactly what the distributor said it was. I had no surprises. It is dirt cheap and no frills but it works very well. If you want to obsess over a little clang when the duct shuts then spend $20 on something more aesthetically pleasing. As for this DIY' er on a budget this was perfect. Also, I could not find this at Lowe's or Home Depot so save yourself a trip and buy it here.
These seem to be of excellent quality. Bought 2 and put them in the top of my greenhouse to vent heat. They are a tad noisy. If you put them on your house I would not have it next to a bedroom. But other than that they are well built, work well and solved my venting problem perfectly!
