Zombicide Base Game

The best way to describe this game is cinematic! If you like zombie movies/shows (definitely thinking Walking Dead), you'll love this game! It's incredibly challenging, but it's a blast to play. When your party inevitably dies, you feel as though you took part in a dark, devastating story. The game really captures the bleakness of the zombie apocalypse.

In one game, a friend was the last player in the game. We'd all given up hope, but he was going to go down swinging as the horde closed in. He searched the room he was in to make the most game altering find... CHAINSAAAAW!!! All he needed to do was make it to the exit, and we could actually win this. With a way to mow down multiple units, there was a glimmer of hope! He tore through a couple of packs of walkers as he moved to the exit. He was at an intersection only a few steps away when the dreaded extra activation card flipped. He was mobbed and eaten. An incredibly painful and anticlimactic end. No blaze of glory, no more corpses littering the streets. Just death.

That is Zombicide. You are in the bleak landscape. You will die. More zombies will come. But man, is it good!

I do recommend a few house rules that make the gameplay much more enjoyable and add some "realism."

1) When shooting into a square with zombies and players, any hits go to zombies. Misses on a roll of a 1 with a single-fire weapon hit the other player, but otherwise misses just miss. When using a multi-fire weapon (shotgun, SMG, etc), all misses hit the other guy. Letting hits actually hit the zombies makes the game a lot more exciting and adds a little gravity to your choices. It's much more exciting!

2) We get rid of turn order. As long as any one player plays their turn to it's entirety, it doesn't matter who goes when. It's the zombie apocalypse; we're here to survive.

3) Allocate the starting weapons instead of randomly drawing. If we're all in the same room and trying to survive together, wouldn't we share our weapons to use the strengths to our advantages?

4) When we run out of walkers, we add runners in their place instead of the extra activation. It still sucks, but it's not unrealistic. If we run out of runners, we add 2 fatties per without their entourage.

5) When herds split unevenly, we don't add more zombies. That doesn't make any sense. Instead, we send the odd zombie in the direction that is most disadvantageous to us. We know where we're going next, so we send him on the route that will take him there. It makes the game more challenging without breaking physics.

6) If there are still objective markers on the board when a player dies, we "find" another survivor when we pick up the objective. This keeps everyone interested because there's an opportunity to get back in the game. Especially helpful if you died in the first few turns of the game.

7) Not to add gameplay so much, but whenever one of our characters dies, we leave their piece on the board as a walker. It's interesting to see where they end up in the horde. If we're wiping out a group of zombies that include an old friend, we usually save them to be the last kill, and we role play it. It's a lot more fun that way!

We feel as though these house rules make the game feel more cinematic and realistic. They're not mechanics just to be mechanics. They also make it feel a little less like a game and more like a story, which we love!

The game is really good, and well made. It comes with many zombies, the main characters and one larger zombie as a "boss". The figures are well made.
The map is really detailed, and you can assemble it to form many different levels.
There are cars (you can ride them), and other printed stuff to use during gameplay. Of course, dices and cards that will help you (or not, if your unlucky) though the game.
There's the rules, that come in a magazine format (don't worry, lots of images). Really nice, and detailed. It also has 10 missions and how to assemble the maps for them. Every explanation has an example to help you understand better.
Also, characters cards can be completed on the back to create your own characters (or download them online).
You can play solo (you manage the 6 characters), 2 players (3 characters each), 3 (2 each) and 4 or more players with one character each.
It's a cooperative game, and you will need each players help to make it through.
There are also many expansions that complement the game, so you can adjust it to fit your needs.

Who doesn't love zombies? In this game you set out with fellow survivors to trudge across a map to accomplish some goal and lay waste to undead horde that used to be your friends, family, neighbors, acquaintances, that weird guy from work, you get the idea, they've all turned and you got to do what you got to do.
There's a lot of combat in this game but I like how they also allow you to level up and take on new skills adding to what you can do. It makes it feel like its not just a mindless roll the dice to see how many zombies you kill this turn.

Its a great co op game and if you like minis, you really need this. I had a great time painting these up, the quality of the minis is stellar. Great game to have in your collection.

I really want to love this game, but I can only "like" it. Opening the box and seeing all the contents definitely made me feel like I was getting a lot of product for the cash. Several of the scenarios are downright difficult, and require multiple strategies. We have had to play through each scenario a few times before finally winning a scenario. While that definitely adds to the challenge, when it takes sometimes 2 hours before you to realize that you've hit that proverbial brick wall, it can be discouraging. After getting our butts kicked all weekend long, I spent some time combing the internet, thinking maybe we had just misread some rules or were forgetting about some others that would give us that edge that we needed. Turns out we were playing by the book. We adopted a few "house rules" that we found online that others were using. Nothing to always turn the tides completely in our favor, but something to help. Some have complained that they had to buy other sets to make up for not having enough pieces (like having to field more zombies). Honestly, if it's gotten to the point where you've run out of figures, you're probably more hosed than you realize. 4/5 because I would have imagined at least a few milk runs in there, not everything having to be overanalyzed (read that as this is not a late night beer and peanuts game)

The wife and I love this game. My niece and nephew also enjoy coming over and playing. It's by far our favorite co-op game. The price is steep, but if your on the deciding line of purchasing Zombicide by all means go for it.

I am biased being a huge zombie fan and growing up playing table top games like Warhammer 40k.

We tried hard to keep electronics out our board game, but I have to suggest using the app with this game. Despite the apps inability to reconnect dropped players back into the game it is a huge time saver. Eliminating the need to have a bunch of cards strewn about: really improves the zombie phase and setup time. Plus it helps keep the younger generation engaged.

Description

Zombicide is a collaborative game for 1 to 6 players, for 13 years old and up. A game lasts for 20 minutes (beginner board) to 3 hours (expert board). Each player controls from one (for 6 players) to four (solo game) "survivors", human beings in a zombie-infested town. In fact, "survivors" hastily change to "hunters" to smash zombies through and through. However, the team must constantly keep the balance between survival and slaughter: as the zombicide's going on, the "Danger level" is going up and infected are growing in numbers. Any misstep can turn to disaster. Zombicide is a fun and easy game with cool minis in an archetypical, popular and comics-inspired environment. Ambiance is constantly kept between "beat'em up" and "survival horror" as characters keep on turning from preys to predators. Humor and gloom happily marry in a zombie-fest. Find weapons, kill zombies. The more zombies you kill, the more skilled you get, the more skilled you get, the more zombies appear. The only way out is Zombicide! Play 10 scenarios on different maps made from the included modular map tiles, or create your own.

I thought this game was really fun. It’s my first table top game where you’re not going against each other but strategically helping each other out. (I also haven’t played many table top games before) Whether it be a decision to killing people off so the rest can survive and win the game or make it so that the whole group can make it. I did find it difficult to get all the rules at first. Again, I’ve never played a game like this so it may have been that I’m just a newbie and it took me longer. I like that there’s essentially different “levels” as well so that the game doesn’t get stale. Overall, I really enjoyed it and it’s a staple on game nights now. If you’re new to games like this, like me, I can’t recommend it enough. It was a perfect introductory board game.

So much FUN! If you are a fan of strategy games and you like the Walking Dead Show on AMC then this is a game you need to buy. There are a TON of pieces to it, which add to the fun of the game. You have walkers, runners, fatties (my husband called these boomers), and the giant monsters (which reminded me of Resident Evil) all as the bad guys out to get you. But never fear there are hero characters that you get to be that all have special abilities. The boards are changeable to the number of players you have and the type of area or mission you want to go on. On our first game it took us almost 3 hours (mainly because we had to re-read the rules a couple of times), but future games went by much faster. Honestly you don't even think about how long it is taking, because it is so much fun. This game is a Co-operative game, so make sure the people you play with understand that and you will do great. We have a person or two in our gaming group that likes to add a traitor element to any co-op game we play and that won't work with Zombicide.

This game surprised me with how much fun it was. It took an hour to go through the book and look over all the pieces and get familiarized with the rules and setup, but once my group started playing we immediately fell in love with it. It's definitely a game that can be easy to complete depending on how the cards fall for you, but you can easily find yourself and your group in bad situations. But that's honestly the best part about the game. Even when you're being overun, you still have a good time. Highly recommend picking up the expansions and guest pieces. They're worth it! My only gripe is that the ranged combat rules seemed overly punishing, so my group plays with a house rule of survivors only taking damage from another survivors ranged attack on a miss, and who the zombies attack are decided by a dice roll among the players. All in all, a very entertaining zombie board game experience!

This is a great game with fantastic miniatures. It is easy to learn and doesn't get over complicated with the rules like the Gears of War board game (another great game, but more complex without really adding more fun) so it is easy to get new people playing in a hurry. It has a few rules that, in my experience, everyone finds absurd. (Ranged weapons target other survivors first and until they are dead, only then can you kill zombies in the same zone. A second wound results in death.) All of these issues are addressed in the Black Plague variant, but are easily fixed with just house rules. If you want zombie themed miniatures for use with another game, the quantity and quality of the miniatures makes Zombicide worth the price just for the miniatures.

I absolutely love this game and series. I've played it multiple times and always had a fun and unique experience from 2-4 players. There are tons of scenarios online or you can make up your own if you've run through all of the ones included. If you like fast paced action and zombies, this is a great game.
