This is for the DYE FIXATIVE: it works amazingly well. Usually, things dyed in Rit fade very quickly in the wash. But with this stuff they fade much, much more slowly. Not perfect, still fades faster than a real-dyed thing that you bought already colored, but lasts more than 2x longer than a rit-dyed thing without using this stuff. Worth it.
Being a hairdresser, I tend to wear a lot of black. I also wash my clothing frequently- working with chemicals and hair clippings gets messy- and although I use special detergent designed for dark clothing in cold water, black has a tendency to fade, so a few times a year I do a dyebath for all of my black clothing.
It used to be that they would look great- sharp & dark- until I washed them a few times, then the dye would fade back out. Until I came across THIS product! The RIT dye colorstay fixative really helps to extend the life of the dye, I’d say by double at least. Just follow the instructions and enjoy the results! One more thing I’ve found is that when I would dry freshly dyed clothing, there would be a grayish stain left on the inside of the dryer, but that doesn’t happen anymore since I’ve started using the Colorstay!
I’ve seen some negative reviews for this product but if you follow the directions I bet it’ll work just as well for you.
I followed the 20 minute procedure on a cotton blend shirt and when I rinsed, I was amazed that very little dye was in the rinse water. Very happy! I have yet to wash the shirt in a washing machine but the rinse water says a lot already.
This stuff is awesome brought back some color from a very faded 15yr old grateful dead tie dye shirt and locks it in. Would buy again
I started using this when I dye my black pants in order to keep them looking new and it seems to help keep them looking good longer so that I don’t have to re-dye as often.

Did what the instructions said and product worked like a charm. The excess dye was stripped out and didnt bleed
Rit dye is pretty dependable. Follow the directions carefully for the best results.
Really made a difference. Barely any dye rinsed out even in the first rinse after dying.
