I love wooden toys. They're timeless, eco-friendly, and suggest good quality. Wooden toys last longer as I can attest having saved most of my kids' wooden toys from their early childhoods and still have some on display. Petit Collage Modern Elephant Wooden Xylophone is one of those items that I consider useful and collectible to be enjoyed for many years. It feels solid (though not too heavy) and would stand up to a lot of musical play. I believe music is fundamental and if a toy looks cute and helps wee ones appreciate the art of creating melodies through play, then it's a winning toy. The elephant design is clean-lined with its modern minimalist approach and looks great on a book shelf when not being used. The primary colors on the metal keys are striking and are perfectly positioned on the easy-to-transport wooden elephant. There is a loop on the side where you can store the wooden mallet when not in use. The elephant xylophone is nicely packaged in an eye-catching box, making this a great option for gift giving.

First off: well made, simple, sweet. The giraffe guiro, with his horn that pulls out and becomes a stick, is especially cute and clever. They're all cut from beautiful, extra thick plywood for a streamlined, modern look. Thesre are toys you can expect to hand down for sure, which makes their higher price reasonable. The only reason I'm giving them 4 stars instead of 5 is that their very quiet sounds (except the guiro, which is in a modest musical range) will make them less appealing as music makers to older children. The bells and shaker are barely audible, especially with any other music (or, you know, speaking), so they're disappointing for older toddlers and preschoolers trying to join together in musical fun.

On the other hand, the very thing that makes them boring for older tots will make them very welcome to frazzled patents. The gently tinkling of the quiet bells is preferrable to most modern toys--especially with babies, whose uncontrolled physical motions tend to make the maximum volume from any noisemaker. For babies also, there are many nice surfaces to touch and gnaw.

After teething, the guiro will still have a place in the music box, and the other little animals may still be called upon in imaginative play.

Quality wood construction has held up against being thrown around and abused by my four year old and one year old. The lion jingles, the elephant rattles, and the giraffe's horn is a stick that comes out to rub on its neck for a percussive vibration. My one year old loves gripping and playing with these! It's definitely appropriate for younger babes too. This would make an excellent gift too as it's very cute, matches a lot of peoples jungle themed nurseries, and is safe and fun for pretty much all ages. Also, none of them are annoyingly loud which mom and dad appreciate!

Not only is this little xylophone beautifully designed and made, it is so beautifully presented that a simple gift wrap makes it ready for gift giving for a new baby boy or girl or for a child 3 or younger. The workmanship is exquisite, the wood is beautiful, well carved, and smoothly finished. It is a toy for playing or for room decoration when not being used. The notes are clean and pleasant.

The little mallet is also well-made, delivers a clean sound, and is easy to hold, but there lies my only reservation. You really have to keep an eye on a teething baby or adventurous child. The little red tip is a separate piece and, while it seems to be unalterably attached, you never know. I have tried to pull it off and couldn't, but that doesn't mean it couldn't happen. This probably applies to every other mallet on every other xylophone. It attaches to a loop on the right of the elephant that sort of forms its tail.

This little xylophone is cute. The best part about it is that it isn't very loud or clangy sounding, like some are. Its more soft chimes. It is a somewhat smaller size, but that is actually kind of nice. It can sit on the tray to the high chair and the baby can bang away on it and entertain herself while I get her food ready. The music plates are not far enough apart for little fingers to get between them and there are no areas on it to worry about. The little wooden stick is easy for her to hold and use. Since she is young, just turned 7 months old, I do keep an eye on her playing with it so she doesn't poke her eye out or put the stick down her throat etc. There is a little loop on the side to store the stick when done playing.

Description

Petit Collage Where Design Meets Play

This three piece set of wooden toy musical instruments is perfect for small baby hands that are just learning how to grab and hold on to something. Each animal shaped toy is easy for my 8 month Grandson to hold onto and the music they make when he shakes them is not loud.
They are colorful and cute and they keep him entertained while I'm doing daily around the house chores.

Grandson is teething and the paint doesn't come off when he drools on them.
I didn't smell any harsh chemicals scents on the toys.

The items arrive in cute boxes that could be used if you're giving the toy as a gift.

This is totally cute and I only gave it one less star because the metal keys don't strike true unless you hit them just right. If you don't, they just make a lot of noise. This item is for ages 18 months and up and the younger kids are usually more into noise than perfect pitch, but still, if you want to play an actual song, it's hard to get the notes to sound right. But it's bright colors, cute shape and mallet that doubles as the elephant's tale make it so cute that you'll like it anyway, probably, and the trunk makes a great handle for little hands to carry it around with them.

This is an excellent toy for both of my children. It is wooden and the colors on the elephant wood toy are very bright and vivid. The sound that comes out is very good.
Great for coordination and development. My 9 month old loves it. And my 2.5 year old plays on it too.
Only thing I would have recommended is to secure the stick drum on the sides with a comfortable wire so that it doesn’t get lost.

I'm a speech pathologist who works with preschoolers. I got this set for use in therapy with little ones and love it! The pieces are very sturdy and well made - no worries about them getting chewed on, banged up, etc. They are properly sized for little hands. The designs are simple, cute, and engaging, with the natural wood tones offset by splashes of color. I especially love the nifty giraffe neck that doubles as a holder for the guiro stick! The musical functions of the pieces are responsive and easy. Overall a charming and very developmentally useful set.

These are three small music making toys that are bound to drive the parents of small children crazy, while delighting babies and toddlers. They are just perfectly sized for small hands, and made of durable, brightly painted wood. The lion has little jingle bells and the elephant rattles when shaken. The giraffe is a bit more of a challenge, but probably the most fun of all. Pull his horn from the top of his head and you have a good sized stick perfect for running up and down his zig zag mane. These are so cute and fun. And sturdy too!
