I've tried so many products in my search for an SPF30 or higher sunscreen without all the nasty chemicals and parabens.Like all the other natural products I've tried, this one's way too hard to rub into your skin and leaves a decidedly white film on your skin even after rubbing vigorously. It might be ok to use at the beach, but not for everyday use where you don't want people to think you've seen a ghost. Or are one.
4/15/15 Update: The folks at Goddess Garden invited me to call them, which I did, and they offered to send me several samples of the other sunscreen formulations in their product line, which they also did. I discovered that the Facial 30 SPF sunscreen went on much smoothly and was a lighter weight lotion. It also rubbed in much more easily that my original purchase and didn't leave that whitish tinge on my skin. They told me if I found one I liked, I could call them back and they would send a full size replacement. I called them and expect to receive it shortly. So I must say their customer service is really outstanding. I might add that the Lot # on my original bottle indicated the product was 1 year old by the time I bought it, something the rep pointed out which I hadn't noticed. . This could have contributed to the application difficulty. So it may not have been a product problem at all.
July 2015: Belated update to say that I got the replacement product although it was smaller than the large tube I'd originally purchased. The rep hadn't asked me the size of the tube and I didn't think to tell her. Aside from that, the replacement product, and the samples mentioned above, work much better than the original purchase.
Check your expiration date on this product because if it is old it goes on like clumpy sparkle. Make sure you shake well and put on moisturizer first, then you should not have a problem. This product really gives excellent protection and we did not have to reapply. It was hard to even wash off with soap and water. We snorkeled for hours and never got burned. It feels great using a product that is reef safe, because the coral reefs need all the help we can give. We snorkeled at 5 different islands in the Caribbean while on a cruise and was shocked at the state of the coral reefs and trash in our oceans.
Observations upon my first use of this product:
1) Smells absolutely heavenly upon opening! And I say this as someone who usually doesn't like lavender scents.
2) Holy crap, makes me look like a ghost!
3) Requires a lot of massage to rub the product into my skin, and leaves a glossy/oily sheen even after the whiteness diminishes. I rubbed some along my neck and collarbone to blend out the contrast of sheen/matte skin. This problem might be solved by people who opt to wear a translucent setting powder or something like that. I don't wear skin makeup.
4) Starts out feeling slick and lightweight on my hands, but feels increasingly sticky as it's rubbed in.
5) The scent degrades into something vaguely soapy smelling as it's rubbed in, instead of the delicious tangy floral lavender scent it originally exudes. But that's mild, and fades nearly completely after a few minutes of wear, so this part isn't a major problem for me.
6) Hard to wash off my hands! Which I suppose says something positive about its waterproofness.
I will edit this as I continue to use the product. I'm particularly interested in seeing if it causes any breakouts, etc. So far, just this one day of wear hasn't produced any additional pimples or blemishes, so I'm hopeful. Will also report how easy it is to remove at the end of the day.
This is the best mineral-based sunscreen I've used to date. It rubs in decently well, is quite water proof, and works as long as you're actually applying it. I'm an environmental geologist and my jobs takes me outdoors most days between April and December. I decided to use this product after having used Alba Botanica's mineral sunscreen (good product, but doesn't rub in as well and isn't as water proof, in my opinion) and I haven't gotten a burn once this summer. I even used it at our 4th of July pool party where I was in the pool during peak sunshine and didn't get burned. I'd highly recommend anyone interested in a water proof mineral-based sunscreen try this product, as well as the aerosol version.
This is the only sunscreen that my daughter likes on her face. She likes the faint lavender smell, and as a parent, this is one of the easier products to apply. I also like that it is rated so well on the EWG website. It does have a very slight whiteness, but one of the most minimal you will find for such an effective and safe product. I have done A LOT of research on sunscreens! Sometimes, it will get a little goopy towards the end, but I've found that all natural sunscreens do this. We have purchased many bottles and will be purchasing more of this!

Description
Natural Mineral Facial Sunscreen Lotion
Best mineral sunscreen I’ve found so far. As far as organic mineral sunscreen goes they all go on like glue or pain and leave a white residue. This soaks in and spreads better than a lot of other ones I’ve tried. It’s still sticky and thick but much lighter than most mineral sunscreen. It’s more environmentally friendly and safer for your skin. Traditional sunscreen left me with major rashes. This works great no rash no burn.
I came to a point in my life where I was suddenly allergic to chemical sun screens. The skin on my face, especially my jaw, would itch like crazy hours after washing it off. So the answer was to switch to a physical block type, which this is. It works great, and although I may have to spend a tad more time rubbing it in, it works like a champ. I like the very faint fragrance also.
This is in my top ten of favorite, nontoxic sunscreens. I love the consistency...not too thick as some natural sunscreens and rubs in very well, while not leaving a white residue. It lasts well even after swimming. Every time I've used it, I develop a light tan and don't burn. I use it on my face as well. It does tend to stay on the skin a bit even after bathing, but that's a small price to pay for safety. Many people demonize the sun when it's actually the toxic, commercial sunscreens which causes damage. Products like Goddess Garden make it safe to be in the sun.
Feels great on my skin. Improved skin tone. Have to shake very well and apply slowly and evenly so it doesn't get stuck, but great protection and smell.
Wonderful product! Starts with a white cast but blends in nicely. Perfect for an all over sun protection and gentle enough for my sensitive skin on my face. Didn't make me break out. Not great under makeup - but good for a minimal makeup day in the sun or beach/pool wear. See my full review on the Conscientious Consumer Review Blog
