Amazon HDMI Adapter for Fire Tablets (4th Generation)

this cable does the job we wanted to hook it up to our xboxone and it works out great however it ONLY works with the fourth Gen doesnt work with other kindle fires

Looking for a way to MIRROR your Fire HD (4th generation) display to an HDMI device? This little dongle does it. It has three receptacles:

1. Micro-USB male to plug into your Kindle Fire HD
2. Micro-USB female to allow you to power your Kindle while playing
3. Standard HDMI female to accept an HDMI cable from your TV, monitor, etc.

I plugged mine in (didn't try the power, as my Kindle was fully-charged) to the Fire HD and my TV set, selected the appropriate HDMI input on my TV and wow - it literally just works. It mirrors the Fire HD's display, including orientation changes. Absolutely perfect for watching an MP4 movie on the big screen.

Regarding the negative reviews, please note that this HDMI adapter only works with the 4th generation, 2014 Kindle Fires that are SlimPort enabled. If you are experiencing problems with the new, October 2014 Kindles and this cable, please update your review.

The cable works as advertised! It allows me to watch content from my 4th gen, October 2014 Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 on my HDTV.

PLEASE NOTE:

You may want to consider getting the Amazon Fire TV Stick instead. It allows you to stream video and music to an HDMI equipped TV without needing to plug your Kindle into the TV. Check out my video review:

I was irritated at first when I got my new 4th generation Kindle and had to get all new accessories, but this does work very well and gives an excellent quality picture on the television. I really like the extra port so I can charge the Kindle at the same time as using it. I would recommend getting a 1.4 HDMI cable for it because it might work better (don't think it's necessary, but you'll probably get better picture quality). Amazon Basics has them for pretty good prices.
Before I bought this, I bought a different brand from another company, which was half the price, but it wasn't compatible, so I had to buy this one, but it works perfectly so far.
For those of you having a hard time knowing which generation Kindle you have, I mentioned in a comment of another review that the way I realized I was getting a 4th generation instead of a 3rd (customer service issue, long story...) was by looking for a case. If you look at almost any of the 4th generation Kindle cases, they have a picture of all the generations so you can see which one you have. I know it sounds kind of silly, but it's foolproof and keeps you from buying the wrong item. Here's an example: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00LNTOAQM/ref=cm_cd_asin_lnk

I had purchased Amazon Prime for the shipping, and I never really used the streaming video because I don't particularly like to watch movies or TV on a small computer screen. Then I got a Kindle Fire HDX for Christmas and I wanted to be able to enjoy the streaming video that I was already paying for on my big screen TV.

This adapter worked as advertised. Picture quality is maybe not quite as good as a HD signal from a blue ray or cable tv, but I am still pretty impressed for streaming video. The image varies from title to title. I watched All is Lost with Robert Redford and there was quite a bit of noticeable digital artifacts. Other experiences fared better. I have been watching the FX show The Americans through Amazon Prime and the quality is great. Almost as good as an HD signal. I think the deficiencies in the picture quality have more to do with blowing up streaming video to a 50" screen than it does with the adapter itself.

I have used this adapter quite a bit and it has allowed me to get full use of my Prime membership.

Since there is much confusion on which specific Kindle Fire devices can use this adapter, I will first say that pre-2014 Kindles have no SlimPort hardware for this so those Kindles cannot use this adapter.

To help clarify things, I will give you an example using my setup as guidance on what is needed for this to work.

I use this Fire HDX 8.9" Tablet (4th Generation) released in October, 2014:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HG1TMK0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

This SlimPort adapter easily connects to the above tablet and both work fine so far.

If you want to be sure that your Kindle Fire has a hardware port for this adapter, go to your original order and click on the Kindle item. That will take you to the specific product page. Then find 'Technical Details'. Then look for 'Ports' and you must see something like this:

'SlimPort enabled USB 2.0 (micro-B connector) port to connect to an HDTV...'

I use this Amazon HDMI cable to connect the SlimPort adapter to the TV:

I download Amazon videos to my Kindle and this adapter enables streaming to a large screen HD TV. A great feature is that it enables simultaneous Kindle charging while streaming, so be sure to make all connections as illustrated on this current product page.

If you are going to try to hook your kindle to you TV, you can't do it without this gadget. I studied all of the reviews and there is no way around it, you have to buy two separate things: 1) the HDMI cable that has a mini on one end and the big adapter on the other end that plugs in the TV. This device allows the mini to plug in one end while the other end plugs into your 4th generation Kindle fire HD.
The adapter also has another port so that you can connect your kindle to power at the same time ( very important if you are watching a movie and run out of battery). It works well and is an absolute must for hooking you Kindle up to the TV.
I highly recommend this adapter!

I've been eyeballing this for a while now because I really like to let the kids watch things on the bigger screens instead of forcing them to watch everything on the Kindle. So, when this went on sale I jumped at the opportunity to get it. However, people are completely correct in the fact that the generations for the kindles are rather confusing. I THOUGHT this might work for one of my older kindles but instead it work on my newer one which is the Fire HD 6. It did not work on anything older than that. I have not tried it with the newest Kindle Fire ones, yet, but I'll try to update this if we get a chance to try that out. (We're saving those for gifts for upcoming holidays.)

This plug not only allows you to plug the kindle into the tv, but you can charge the kindle through this at the same time. That was probably a good idea since it uses the charging plug to attach to the tv. You do NOT need to have it plugged in to power to use it, though, which was what was originally thought since it took a while to get it to work. I have NO idea what caused our original issues (most likely the television itself being contrary) but we have a smaller "smart" television that we use to plug the kindle in with this cord. If you don't have the ability on your television to attach an HDMI cord then don't bother with this. Oh yeah, and you will need an HDMI cord because this only connects your kindle to the cord. Thankfully we have about 5 per room since they are needed for everything!

Well, I am glad that I have a way to watch my new HDX4 on my big HDTV again. I didn't buy last year's version due to the fact that there was no HDMI port to connect my Kindle to the TV. With the advent of the latest Kindle HDX 8.9" 4th generation, Amazon is offering a way to connect directly to the TV again. I went ahead and bought one of the new ones,(i.e. 4th generation only will this adapter work with) and was happy to find that it worked as advertised. My problem is that the adapter doesn't allow enough 'juice' through to the Kindle to charge properly while running. With my older HD 8.9", my 2.1A battery packs will charge the Kindle while running at a good rate. With this setup, it will charge with my new power charger,(at a VERY SLOOOOWWW rate) but not with any of my battery packs,(I have several different models and capacities up to 50000mAh all with charging ports of 2.1A). When I connect the HDX4 directly to the power charger, the charger,(the charger has six ports with a capacity of up to 2.4A per port) gets very warm and the Kindle charges very quickly! Using the power charger with a thicker longer cable will allow me to charge the HDX4 but very slowly while in use. Everything else I've tried loses ground while in use,(i.e. discharges).

All in all I am very happy to be able to once again directly connect my Kindles to the HDMI switch box I use for multiple devices. I can live with the currect slow recharge rate. It was just the learning curve that was required to find the correct combination of power source and cable to make it viable.

the micro usb to hdmi adaptor has a charging port on it, so I can charge the kindle while streaming to the projector.....works only with my 4th gen kindle fire hdx 8.9. 4g lte. ......works perfectly. I am not impressed with the miracast screen mirroring, this adaptor will not work with my kindle fire hdx 7 ..4g lte nor the fire phone. ..my father does not have internet at his house.. well he is almost 90 years old. ..he does have a nice projector. ..and now I can plug my 4th gen kindle fire. hdx 8.9 with 4g lte into the projector, and stream without internet, using the mobile cell roaming data. .. also we watch downloaded content from amazon instant video
