Let me say that I love these hooks and the seller was exceptional, responding promptly to pre-purchase enquires, shipping was fast and the price was excellent for such quality hooks. I was looking for hooks that had a longer shank shaft (part above the handle and thumb grip that is below where the point of the hook and tapered throat piece is) especially in the larger sizes and these hooks all have that. The hooks look to be configured more like the Boyle style hooks where the point and throat line up and keep within the size of the shank shaft portion that is above the handle, but the actual point heads are slightly thicker than the shaft (remind me of the Addi Swing hook heads) so you cannot measure them in a traditional round crochet hook measuring tool. The seller let me know that the metal of the hooks does indeed extend down the entire length of the handle which is great and another thing I was looking for, as I have had hooks (the point to shaft) come out of the plastic handles as they were only a short piece glued in). The rubber-like coating on the hooks seems very tight and I suspect they will not come off give the shape of the handle, they are color coded with the size of the hook embossed into the handle covering in mm sizing. The handle is very comfortable to hold and the coating on the hooks means you do not have to grip it as hard and it adds a bit of substance for those of us with arthritic hands that like a little cushion and thicker grip than the traditional bare metal hooks. I particularly like the flat areas on either side for a thumb and index finger rest (I usually hold my hook in the spoon/knife fashion) but there is a slight taper on the sides of the flat grip areas which makes it very comfortable to hold in the pencil grip fashion as well. The handles are a nice length, the metal point throat and shank shaft are nice and shinny and the yarn/wool slides nicely off and on easily and I have had no trouble with the head spitting the yarn. The depth of the hook grove is deep enough to catch the yarn nicely. ...These hooks remind me of the Amour crochet hooks but I MUCH PREFER the Athena hooks with their slightly tapered handle shape and longer shank shaft. The hooks are nice and light even the larger sizes. I like to keep my hooks in a zippered carrying case and I found the Teamony crochet hook case holds all of the hooks easily, with room to spare for larger sized hooks should Athena's hooks come out with them
(hint : please, please!) and other odds and ends. Overall, I would say that these hooks are truly exceptional and I am so glad I came across them as I had been lamenting the fact that I would like a hook especially in the larger sizes with a longer shank shaft. I waited to write a review until I tried out several of the hooks and I can highly recommend these hooks.
I usually do not post feedback. Not because a product is not up to standards, but just because I seem to have no time to do one. This time I had to take the time. I have been crocheting for more years than I want to admit. In the last 5 years I have stepped it up a notch and started attending craft shows, so now I am "really" crocheting, And my product MUST BE top notch. I have used so many different hooks, some I love, others I hate. The ones that catch your yarn and pulls just one thread to mess up a whole row, well those are the pits. I took a chance on this set. OH MY GOODNESS. The hooks are amazing. Super smooth. I love that there are 1/2 steps also. 2.5, 3.5. I do believe that I will be watching for another sale on these and will be getting more than one set. I always need more than 1. Do not hesitate to purchase this set.
I can't believe it- I can crochet again with no pain and with great results! Like a lot of crocheters, I have held on to my aluminum Boye hooks from the 1970's for the shape of the hook. You need that "rounded" shape for easy use. I've tried Susan Bates and Lion Brand crochet hooks over the years, but they have a more "pointy" shape that doesn't quite work. These Athena hooks combine the easy of use of the original Boye hooks with the comfort of a *perfectly* shaped soft handle. Last night I was able to crochet all evening with *absolutely* no pain in my hand or wrist. These are the "Cadillac" of crochet hooks! My work came out even and true to gauge. The hooks are smooth and glide through the roughest of yarns with no splitting. I am very grateful to the developer of these. If you have any doubts about these, go ahead and order them. You will be amazed.
Wow I have been buying hooks one at a time for a couple years now (when I first began crocheting). I always bought the all metal ones and after a while my hand would get tired and I would have to stop. I had NO CLUE how much a hand like this would help! I am faster, more comfortable and I also split the yarn far less. I guess the hook really DOES make a big difference! These are great, I love the colors and I now have all the sizes I need all in one place. Needless to say these are totally worth it in my book.
Love this set. I taught myself to crochet last year and my hands really aren't happy with me. But now my hook hand is much better off. These hooks are nice to hold, and not only does the more built up handle make what you're grasping larger and more comfortable, you don't have to grip it that hard either given the material of the handle. Yarn glides easily. It felt like it was catching at first, but that soon went away, but even while it did feel that way it in no way affected the work, it was just a sensation on my end. The longer hooks leave a lot of work space as well.
The only con I think I can find, which doesn't really seem like much of one, is that if you already own a crochet hook holder, they may not fit very easily. I have one with elastic bands to hold the hooks and it's difficult to store them there. But that's more a downside of the case. I did see that this same seller has an adorable crochet hook case which looks like it would better accommodate the handles. But they probably took care to make sure that was the case when designing the case. Now I've got to figure out the best way to make my yarn holding hand happier.

The description of these hooks is "Ergonomic and Extra Long" I wouldn't disagree but I have been using regular hooks forever and it took some getting used to. I am not sure if it was the material or the extra long hooks. I felt as if I had to change my technique just to feel comfortable. Alas I do and I really like them. I would highly recommend them.
The first hook I used out of this set was amazing and I can crochet a lot longer then I used to with out getting fatigued or sore. Love them for that. Just recently I pulled out a larger one for a different project and as I was crocheting the chain stitches it wasn't smooth at all and I felt like I was catching the yarn on some part of the hook and sure enough that was what was happening. I was going to switch to the next smaller hook when I thought I'd try my nail file on it and see if I could smooth it out. And it worked. I smoothed out the area that was snagging my yarn and now I've been able to use it for this project. And easy fix, yes, but I wish they would be quality control check before put into the packages to make sure they are all working smoothly. I haven't checked any of the other ones yet. Maybe will add to the review when I do.
Well I'm going to be honest one of the main reasons I bought these through Athena is because she is a military spouse and my husband is retired military. We both believe in supporting veterans and/or military spouses businesses. The other reason was she had high reviews and response time on fixing problems. I have used these for about 2 weeks now and love them. They're a little shorter than what I thought, but they fit my hand well and my hand doesn't go to "sleep" like they do with regular hooks. Will defiantly purchase through her again! Plus the company emailed when I placed the order thanking me. You don't get that with most companies anymore.
These are incredible! I love the companies story, and the quality of these hooks is incredible. They are comfortable because of the rubberized finish on the handles. I also really enjoy the fact that they are color coded, because I am the type of person to work on mutiple projects at once, and with these I know exactly what color to reach for for which project. I dunno, just something I enjoy about them! The hooks seem to have a good slip to them when going through yarn as well. I highly recommend... Plus they are very well priced, I mean hooks can get super expensive! And these are reasonable for how many you get, and the great quality.
Bought these for my step daughter, who crochets all of the time for all of her friends and relatives. She's developed arthritis in one of her hands and has been having trouble keeping up with all of her projects. So...I saw these on your website and thought, what the heck, I'll get some for her and see if they are all they are made out to be. And they are! She loves them.
