We buy these for the head (and tail) of our household: the cat. Our vet suggested freeze dried chicken treats for our kitty (Thor) who needs to put on some weight, she suggested the brand that comes in the little square bottle, but this brand is way better. They have a cat version but it's the same thing except smaller pieces and smaller packages. This has larger pieces that you can break up or crumble, less ingredients (as in no additives), better price and after reading more about the company, yeah, we want to put our money on them so they can keep making high quality stuff for our kitty.
Also, not only is this stuff basically healthy kitty crack, but the leftover dust (it IS freeze dried chicken, so there's going to be some crumbles and chicken dust) makes almost anything appetizing to kitty. We've used it to help transition Thor to different, healthier food and more recently, to homemade food. We could probably sprinkle it on his archenemy, the vacuum, and he would lick if off without fear. (...but we wouldn't do that. The natural adversarial relationship between cats and vacuums is not to be tampered with.)
I buy freeze dried meat treats for my cat and dog to share since my cat has some health issues and cannot have typical cat treats, and my dog would panic if the cat got something he didn't. I've tried many different brands and they seem to like some more than others, but will eat any of them. My issue with these treats is they crumble and make a horrible mess, so I end up throwing away a lot of product and have to feed them in a dish to minimize cleanup. Other brands don't seem to be as dry so maybe that's why they don't crumble so bad, because all of them do crumble just not as bad as these, I only had this issue one other time and it was a petsmart brand.
I changed from 3 to 4 stars, because both my cat and dog love these treats. I still don't like how messy they are, but they are the preferred treat in my house.
My cats love these treats!! including the one who has never shown the slightest interest in any treat before encountering this one. Only downside, he never begged for treats before these came along, but now he comes running and starts meowing anytime I'm near the cabinet where these are kept.
I like that these are just chicken, no additives. These treats are crumbly, and there's a good bit of white powder at the bottom. I mix this into their food when they get finicky. You may want to be careful where you give these treats, as there will be crumbs left on your carpet, furniture etc. Incidentally, note that I have CATS not dogs. As per usual for cat products, you get to pay twice the price for essentially the same item. Breaking the treats into smaller pieces is the easy solution.
Two out of our 4 cats love this. They know when it’s treat time, and they cry for it. It can be messy because I break the large pieces into smaller ones and it leaves dust and crumbs. To avoid a mess, I feed them in a bowl. I’m hoping that the other two will give it a try someday. It’s a good nutritious supplement to their diet. I hate feeding them those addictive junk treats that all cats seem to love.
I feed my cats a type of food with no grains, only vegetables, sweet potato, and meat - so the idea of feeding them a highly-processed treat didn't sit well with me. When I found this dehydrated chicken, I was thrilled, but also suspicious given that it is labeled for both cats and dogs. Would it be too big for my cats to gnaw on?
I needn't have worried. The cats adored getting this as their evening treat. They come sprinting when it's treat time and have a great deal of enthusiasm, in stark contrast to greenies, which only one of my cats likes. For my boy kitty, I actually toss the freeze-dried meat chunk across the room and let him chase down his prey. Our girl kitty doesn't approve of all of that and just likes it placed in front of her (what a princess).
The treats are solid pieces of chicken breast. That's the only ingredient. You can see the lines of natural meat here; it's not ground and re-formed. And if I take out a piece that is too big, I just snap it in half with little effort. It is brittle enough that they could crunch through a full-size piece though if they wanted to.
I will caution that people living in a damp climate should find a good container to put these in. By the end of my first bag, some were getting a little soft. Once I found a tightly-sealing container to use instead of the ziploc bag they come in, the problem was solved on the next round.
Overall, I can't say enough about this line of treats. I do occasionally vary what we buy for nutrition reasons (liver, turkey, etc), but have to say the chicken has been the most popular (aside from the fish one, which I vetoed because it made my hands smell awful every time I reached in the bag).

Description
All natural, white breast meat chicken, carefully sliced into strips, then freeze dried to perfection using no chemicals, additives or preservatives. The result is a delicious daily snack or training treat that you can feel great about feeding each time you reward your dog. All Whole Life treats are single ingredient and grain free. They are also low in fat, calories and carbs so they won't contribute to weight gain like biscuits and other high calorie treats
I used to buy whole life all the time until I discovered Cat Man Doo brand and can now buy that cheaper
Anyway my reg brand was out of stock and I needed some so I bought these because I trust the quality. I saw that they put a plastic bag of it inside a cardboard box which is cool except.....There is still a huge amount of powder in the bag ... AND the bag is not recloseable.
So not only did I over pay for this stuff it is still too powdery and I have to put it in another container to keep it fresh since it's not in a ziplock bag.
This is still my second in line but I prefer cat man doo chicken littles to these. You can also buy cat man doo in the brand name life essentials on amazon, the quality is better than whole life....in that there is less powder and it comes in a zip lock package.
My cat would live entirely on dehydrated chicken if he could. Every meal has to be sprinkled with "fairy dust"/"kitty krack" at some point or he doesn't think it is edible. On the plus side most bags from Amazon arrive largely pulverized - they are useless as treats and only good as a food topping. On the negative side most bags from Amazon arrive largely pulverized - they are useless as treats and only good as a food topping. I ordered this "boxed" item hoping that would get me protected large chunks and I still only got an unboxed bag mostly filled with dust. I'll use it all either way, but I would rather have the choice to take big chunk treats and pulverize them (if needed) than get a bag of nothing but expensive dust and tiny chips. The product is wonderful, the delivery is crappy.
Thank goodness it is wholesome, because my cats beg for it. The majority of the pieces are tender enough to break into smaller bits. I downgraded the rating from 5 to 4 stars because it is now vacuum packed rather than in a protective cardboard box. While somewhat greener in packaging, I feel it breaks the treats more, and a lot of the package is crumbled to powder. The cats will eat the powder as a garnish over their wet food, but it makes them sneeze.
I have been buying this product for several years and have always been delighted with it, or rather, my cat and my dog have always been delighted with it! I have trained my cat to come inside when I call her, by giving her a piece of chicken when she responds!! It looks just like a piece of chicken breast that has been sliced and it is easy to break it into any size you want for your pet. I read 1 negative review recently, so I looked at other products to find something comparable. Then I remembered that you usually get what you pay for! This product is not cheap, but it IS excellent. So I ordered another bag, as usual. I was surprised when I opened the bag to find these small, rectangular shaped pieces of very hard, and hard to break chicken. I tried feeding it to my pets, but found it was hard to break into smaller pieces and they are just too big for my cat's mouth. I decided to give the company a call to let them know that the product I received was NOT their normal product. I have to say this company has THE BESTS customer service I have received in a LONG, long time. I called after hours and received a call back first thing the next morning from Jennifer. She was very pleasant, concerned and appreciative of my call to let them know about my experience. She asked me for the manufacture date on the package, which confirmed a "bad batch" (my words). I will continue to pay a little more to get a GREAT treat for my pets!! All I have to do is open the bag, and they come running! Thank you, Whole Life, for making this product.
This is a very healthy and safe alternative for our two cats. There are no fillers, just pure chicken. It's also made in the USA, not in China, so that is reassuring. This is pure and tasty protein to keep our cats well and happy!
The only issue that I have, since the chicken is vacuumed packed into a big block in a plastic bag, is trying to separate chunks of it neatly. The packaging from about year ago was entirely different than it is now. I thought that it was easier to handle back then. However, this food is great for my cats!
