I had 1 of these for about a year and it died. Was never unplugged the whole time so I figured I got my monies worth. I bought this thinking it was the same item. When I received it, it was almost the same but better. The case is actually Stainless Steel, not plastic. The controls are on the lid, not on top in the rear. The biggest upgrade though is the lid. The last 1 was a thin piece of plastic which you could see thru. This 1 has a smaller window but the rest of the lid is about an inch thick. This thing keeps the ice from melting much better than the previous one. Also it's much quieter and faster
I was a little hesitant because it was a new product and didn’t have many reviews. However this baby produces quite a lot of nice CLEAR ice. Easy to use and wasn’t as expensive as other units. Very happy so far.
I like clear ice. It doesn't melt nearly as fast. It looks better. It provides a host of sensations that are superior to that cloudy stuff we are all too used to.
This makes clear ice. It doesn't make full, solid, six sided cubes. One of the six sides will be noticeably indented. A bit less so if you make heavier cubes. To make the heavier cubes, set the ice maker to add 3 minutes per cycle by holding the On Button down for 5-10 seconds while turning the machine on.
The cubes come 24 per cycle in easily broken up slabs and after it has chilled the water you're using a bit, it starts delivering crystal goodness about a tumbler full at a time. A couple refills later I had enough to throw out the stale cloudy ice in the kitchen fridge's ice maker and fill it with some good stuff! I put a couple more gallons worth in big zip lock bags in the freezer.
This type of ice machine makes shiny wet ice which will tend to freeze together when you take it out and put it in a freezer. It is, however, easy to bust back apart. If you plan to use your built in kitchen fridge ice maker to dispense this ice, you may want to freeze the wetness off of it first in a zip lock bag, then bust it back up by smacking the bag on something hard.
Because this machine makes clear solid ice, it melts much more slowly. This means that once it fills itself, it cycles much less often. Far fewer falling ice noises in the middle of the night, and when it does fall, it is just one noise. Not dropping one cloudy bullet after another until all (only 8?!) fall off, like my old portable ice maker!
This machine seems quite well built. Actual stainless steel that a magnet will stick to. Well insulated. Nice solid feeling door. More quiet in operation than the old style ice bullet makers.
It uses 1.6 amps during freezing, and 2.6 amps for the much shorter heating cycle that frees a slab of cubes to fall into the basket. When full of ice, it stops pumping water over the ice tray and just sits quietly waiting for enough ice to melt or get used so it can start again.
As your machine is making ice, check that the water is flowing evenly across the whole freezing metal ice tray part. You can (carefully) adjust the sprayer tube in its silicone fitting (above and to the right of the metal ice tray) to achieve this if needed. Mine was fine out of the box.

It's different than most, my last one made white ice this one is clear which lasts longer plus the way it's built cleaning is actually possible.

Bricks of ice produced by this ice maker require effort to break apart. They sometimes can be broken up by hand but if they sit in the collection bin and melt a bit while more bricks get made, they require an ice pick to bust all individual sections into useable cubes. Our routine is to wait for several ice bricks to be produced then remove them to a large metal bowl to break apart with a multi-prong ice pick. Then once all sections are broken into cubes usable in glassware, we transfer the ice supply to regular freezer since this ice maker is not a freezer but is thermal insulated to slow the melting of ice bricks. Noise is also a factor as you can hear the ice maker humming from across the room (as well as dumping of each ice brick which is a bit startling) so it takes some getting used to. We run the device at night to avoid hearing it during the day. But extra capacity means we only have to run the machine once a day or every other day in a two-person household using ice for beverages throughout the day. It saves time and effort over making ice the old fashioned way with ice trays but not as convenient as automatic ice maker in a freezer. As for obtrusiveness, it does use a lot of counter space and looks like a major appliance but if you have the space, you get used to it and come to appreciate it as a time-saver over old-fashioned ice trays. The basket that holds the ice bricks is plastic and may break if handled roughly so we don't apply ice pick to bricks in plastic bin, opting to remove them to a stronger metal bowl. The plastic scoop that comes with it is too small and flimsy so it's mostly useless (get a metal scoop if scooping is your preference versus using fingers to pick out the bricks). The rectangular cover plate over the filling port on top is not attached, lightweight, and can get fumbled or lost easily when refilling the device. A design improment would be to attach cover to the filling port so it doesn't get lost. Besides these smaller issues, we like the device on whole and will keep it as a positive addition to our home kitchen.
My lady doesn't work so she's home all day and doesn't drink anything but coffee without ice. Add me into the mix and our Samsung Side By Side just can't keep up. We put this in the laundry room and keep a gallon jug next to it to keep the water full and wow...we can't use enough ice. Seriously impressed. Just hope it holds up..will let u know in mos to come but for now...best. $100 we have spent in awhile!

This ice maker is simple to use, and cranks out ice fast enough for my purposes. We have a 2 person office, and also a small wine/liquor shop next door. Over the course of an afternoon/early evening, we made enough ice for iced tea all day and then later we made Italian spritzes and chilled a bottle of sparkling wine, and put a gallon bag of cubes in the freezer for the next day. It makes a tray of ice about every 20 minutes with the ambient temperature in our kitchen at about 75 degrees (it creates its own heat so it raised the temperature in our kitchenette.) I used both spring water and filtered tap water and the ice is fairly clear.
The only downside is that the directions are very poorly written. When you go to rinse out the machine before your first use, there is a tiny silicone plug in the drain port you need to remove-- I did not see it at first and couldn't figure out why the thing wasn't draining. It's tiny, so don't lose it. I am not sure how the timer is supposed to operate. The M thing seems to be about making thicker ice, but is the H thing setting it to run for one hour if it is on H1? It's not clear and I have not experimented yet to find out.
If you’re reading this, you love ice too. This unit generates crystal clear ice that is perfect for my needs and is chewable (Note that the cubes are not tiny, but just right for me)
I never took the effort to actually time it, but feel that it takes more than 15 minutes per single sheet of ice cubes. It generates four or five sheets before saying that the bin is full. I fill it with about 2 quarts of water and have to empty the bin a couple of times before it runs out.
The unit appears to be solidly built – my only hope is that it will last many years!
