This just arrived yesterday. It smells off putting to humans and very strong. Not that cat food should smell as appetizing as waffles or something, but this was one of the worst dry cat foods I have smelled. HOWEVER, it is about what the cat thinks. I threw this in his food storage box and instantly he was over there like white on rice even though I had already put down his wet food dinner. He smelled the inside of the box and started yelling at me. I said "OK, you can try some." I threw a few kibbles down on his plate and he vacuumed them down and started screaming for more. I told him to forget it because he is on a diet (He is 16lbs and the vet said he should be 14.5 or so - he is a big boy in general), but tomorrow he could have more. So this morning I gave him both his wet food and the Solid Gold mixed with a little bit of his old food and he sucked it down again without complaint. He apparently likes this much better than the Premium Edge. Time will tell if this food helps to slim him down. I'll update in a few months.
*Update* - One month later, our cat is losing weight with the help of this food and portion control. Yay!
We have two cats..one a Main Coon who could not keep his food down, he would throwup undigested food etc. Since being on Solid Gold, he has only had a couple bouts of that and it is always a 'hairball'....even tho on Laxatone. But he is so much better. It is expensive I know and I have a hard time paying the price, but my Mr. Grayson is so much more content so it is well worth it. Problem is...our other cat wants to eat it also, but she will eat the 'other' brand which is a bit less expensive too, so I try to keep her from eating Mr. Graysons 'solid gold". I really am amazed how well he is doing with digestive issues, this has been a great improvement for him.
I’ve changed cat food quite a bit because it always seemed like my cat threw up too much. I feel it necessary to follow that comment with this information - I have learned that part of the problem can be that they will stuff themselves in one sitting, so I feed her at least 3 times a day, no less, to keep her from overeating. Also, if they drink water around the same time, this will also make dry food expand in their stomach and cause them to throw it up. However, no matter how strict I was with how much food she eats during one day, it never seemed she ever lost weight. One of the things I realized after starting Solid Gold Weight Control was how much more energy she had, almost right after eating she would want to play...instead of ending up in a food coma. My cat, Ivy, is 7 years old this year, but I feel like she’s gotten more playful after putting her on this food. Because of her increased activity level, I’ve been able to get her to play more often. I think between the food and the playtime, this has caused her to drop some weight. I haven’t actually weighed her, but I can tell she is less obese by the way she looks. My mom came over one day and thought she looked thinner as well. I also feel there was a significant drop in how often she throws up, I might still deal with once every couple months, but I feel it’s usually when she eats meals too close together. I try to keep a routine on when she eats.
I definitely recommend you give it a try! This is the happiest I’ve been with a new food brand, especially with the noticeable changes. Not every cat will react the same way I guess, it’s just based on their needs. I hope you get the same results I did! Don’t forget to play with them if they are inside only, this is always necessary to aid in weight loss (just like humans)!
We started caring for an outdoor kitty who clearly needed some TLC. The first photo is from when we first met him, and the second is a month later. After a month of feeding him Solid Gold Fit as a Fiddle, this little boy's fur, indeed his overall appearance is vastly improved. We are so grateful for finding this food so we could help our little buddy get some much needed nutrition. Thank you to the makers of Solid Gold for making such a wonderful product!
After spending over $600 at the vet, I did research on my own.
Short story: one cat refused to eat/drink for 4+ days, no bowels/urine and second cat was barely eating/drinking as well.
After researching I found out that the food that they were eating had changed the formula and there were dozens of posts of same symptoms. I decided to change their food to "Solid Gold Dry Cat Food", it's GF & grain free.
Within 2-3 days both my cats had returned to normal! I was cautious and concerned but 3 weeks later the boys are doing great!

I adopted my cat Tippy about a year and a half ago. She was a stray that lived in my neighborhood, and she decided one day that she wanted to live with my family. We brought her in, and she was quite skinny. Tippy ate almost everything she could, including my other cat's food... Needless to say, she became a bit chunky and went from 9lbs to 15lbs. I tried several different kinds of diet cat foods, but this is the only one that has shown results. As of a few days ago, she's 13.8lbs, and the goal the vet gave us is 10-12lbs. We're almost to Tippy's goal weight, and this food along with extra play time has certainly made a difference!
My cats have eaten Solid Gold dry foods for their whole lives. Since they are indoor cats, they gained too much weight. I switched them to Fit as a Fiddle, and they have gradually lost weight. And they love this food. The only negative I will add is not about the food, itself, but with availability and pricing. This is one of those items that Amazon suddenly does not have in stock, and to purchase via Amazon would cost an obscene amount. I recommend shopping around, but doing so for this food.
Our cat loves this food, and has lost a few pounds. Its the only dry cat food I've found that has 30% protein, and it doesn't cause him to throw up. A winner all around!
This is apparently cat crack and my formerly (not so) little ones have definitely lost weight. While not dying of hunger! Worth it.
I absolutely love the solid gold brand of cat food. We always do a grain-free cat food and I couldn't be happier than with the fit as a fiddle version. Our indoor cat began to plump up when he could no longer go outside during winter months so we switched him to this and never took him off of it. He is on constant feed and this helps us to regulate his weight while not taking food away from him. We couldn't be happier and he has never turned his nose up to it once.
