I originally ordered the CD slot mount, but it didn't fit properly in my car. Exchange was easy and hassle-free. The vent-mount works well, but one of the gripping pads fell off and was lost after only a few uses. Coincidentally, I received an email from the maker asking for a review. I mentioned my problem, and they promptly responded with a request for a picture of the failed part so they could remedy the situation. I sent two photos and waited. And waited. After two weeks I sent a follow up inquiry. After several months I'm still waiting. The product seems well made otherwise, and usable despite the missing pad, but customer service was a disappointment.
UPDATE: After this review the seller contacted me, replaced the item and all is well. I raised the review to 5 stars.
I already own the iOttie Easy One Touch 3 (V2.0) Car Mount Universal Phone Holder for iPhone 7 Plus 6s Plus SE Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge S6 Edge Note 7 5- Retail Packaging- Black and I love it. When I needed a holder that was a bit more portable, I didn't want something that would "suction" to the dash or window and went with a few cheap ones. The only issue was that I always needed two hands to take the phone out our put back. I was looking for something like my iOttie Easy One Touch 3. Well, turns out that iOttie makes exactly what I needed.
This is an awesome phone holder. It clips in to the vent super easily. It hasn't come off once after repeated uses in my spouses car. But when I wanted to remove it recently to use in a rental car, it was easy to remove.
The phone goes in to the holder very easily. There is a button that my iPhone presses on when I put in the holder, This clamps the phone in. To remove, you press the two sides and it opens. Not the best way to explain it but that is the basics of it.
No matter how many bumps we have went over, this phone hasn't come out even once.
I love this holder. Already planning this as a holiday gift for a few friends who liked my phone holder but also didn't want something that was more permanent.
To be honest, when I first got this product I was in love. I don’t have a CD drive in my car so that mount was not an option and I’m insanely afraid of suction cup mounts because I am scared to death the suction cup will give out, fall, and scare me thus wrecking my car. Yes, these are the things I think about.
When I clipped this handy device onto my fan, it worked wonders and I was able to view my GPS vertically and horizontally. However, within a few weeks of purchase, the grip on the right side will not extend all the way anymore therefore I have to manually pull it apart. You can see in the pictures how the grip on the right side is stuck and won’t extend like the one on the left. I am pretty disappointed in this as I really loved the product.
EDITED: The company reached out to me personally, offered to send me a new one as mine became defective. Their customer service was so incredible, that I felt the need to locate my old review (previously 3 stars) and edit it as they sent me a new one and I recieved it within DAYS. Thank you so much iOttie!
So I've been using this for around a year now and it works as good as the day I got it. It fits into the vent, and holds the phones securely. We've had smaller phones all the way up to my Samsung Galaxy Note 8 and it holds it securely. You just have to make sure you clean the rubber arms with a damp cloth on occasion as it will get dirty and the grip will begin lessening so your phone may slip a little, but it has never dropped our phones. If you have a heavy phone I would recommend pushing the holder into the vent to ensure it is snug and secure as we have it the entire unit fall off the vent a couple of times but it was only because when you pull the phone off it can sometimes slide off the vent enough to no longer be secure. On my wife's phone she has a case with an intricate design in the back, which, unfortunately does not trigger the auto grip button on the center, so we have to engage it and then wedge the phone in, but it works great once it is in. Overall it works good, quality is great, and it isn't a huge monster on your dash so it isn't really noticeable when a phone isn't it in. I tried numerous phone holders and this, by far, was the best and held the phones as secure as ones that had little feet at the bottom. overall, this was the end of my journey of looking for a good phone holder! I will say though this depends on vehicle, as I have a Toyota Sienne and the vents are perfectly positioned, but in my Toyota Camry the vent is angled too far back making the phone screen not as optimal. So again, your experience may vary slightly.
This vent mount from iOttie is perfect for my phone (Moto X Pure). The phone is easy to place into the mount and to remove from the mount. The mount itself is easy to clip to the air vent and appears secure. I tried a mount that used a magnet prior to this one and I found that I could not use it because the plate between my case and phone that is used to attach to the magnet mount made it difficult to use my NFC/Mobile Payment function, which I use daily (it worked, but I had to move the plate around and find the right spot to activate the NFC). My phone would also jostle around on the magnet mount on bumpy roads, so I would pay more attention to it while necessary while driving to make sure it would not fall. Since the iOttie mount does not use a magnet, it does not require a plate on the phone or between the phone and your case. Therefore, I'm able to use my NFC without issue and I do not have to worry about the phone falling while I'm driving..

I love this iOttie Air Vent Car Mount for cell phones. California has a new law about hands free driving, and since I drive every day, I had to purchase a mount for my phone. I purchased one similar but of a different brand several years ago and had a bad experience so I had really been putting off buying another. I didn't want to mount a phone holder directly on the dash because I didn't want to damage the finish. Also, because my dash isn't flat at the spot where I would want the phone mounted, I was worried that the adhesive would not make good contact. I decided to purchase a model that mounts on the vent vanes despite the problem I had with my previous phone holder of scratching the vanes. Well I'm glad to say that it has worked out really well. The iOttie is very secure and doesn't wobble around like the one I had a bad experience with, so I think the scratching issue is not going to come up.
Now, down to the features I like about the iOttie hands free mount. 1) It is secure, so it doesn't slide off the mount point on the vent vanes. 2) I love the little actuator button that automatically closes the spring loaded phone holder arms when the phone touches it. This feature makes it an easy one handed effort to put the phone into the holder. 3) I love the release buttons that are easily pressed in a pinching motion while holding the phone to make it an easy one handed effort to remove the phone from the mount.
All in all I have been very pleased with this car mount and I will buy another just like it if this one ever wears out, which seems a long way off at this point since this is a very sturdy and well put together device.
Works as advertised. Helps keep my hands free while driving and just needing a quick glance at google maps. So far I've used this in 8 rental cars and each car was capable of working with this mount. Also its nice that its small to fit inside my luggage while traveling.
The spring for the button latching onto the air vents is extremely difficult to depress. You will need a lot of strength to install this. On the positive side I feel confident that mount will stay latched on.
When driving on rough terrain and pushing the screen at the same time I find myself moving the angle of the mount. Somewhat a pain but I understand the need for it to move.
Somewhat curious if the phone will overheat being in front of the air vent if you are running the heater. So far all I've done is use the air conditioner and this helps a ton when running intense apps that normally heat up my phone.
I purchased the vent mount with the idea of using it so that my phone which was formally in a window mount would fit below in a vent mount so that it would be out of the way.
While a great concept, my vehicle just did not have a good position for the device, so it has been moved to another vehicle.
The downside of the device is that it "clamps" on the vent louver, and can put a lot of pressure that will if flexed enough end up breaking so there is some caution urged depending on the size and weight of the device you will be using.
While this unit does hold my phone, I find it is not sturdy when I try to press the face of my phone to navigate my menus. Now, that said, I am a full supporter of NOT messing with ANY phone while driving. So, if I am parked - I can hold/steady my phone (while in this mount) with one hand and use the other hand to navigate my phone. If only using the phone as a navigation device while driving this holder does just fine. My phone was held securely and did not fall out. However, if you're one to put others at risk and try to navigate your phone with one hand and drive with the other, you will probably find this holder is not firm enough to securely anchor your phone so it doesn't wobble. That said, I commend this companies Engineering team for making sure people pull off and park before trying to use their phone while secured in this holder.
Loyal iOttie customer; had the stick-on-dash kind previously, but in my new car I wanted a clean, non-permanent (non stick-residue) option. I tried the iOttie CD-slot style, but it didn't work in my car because of the shape of the dash under the CD slot. The iOttie vent clip style works well for my needs. It's a little loose and sometimes flops left or right, but I like it that I can easily uninstall from my car and switch to a rental or company car as needed without any residue. Unlike the regular dash-mount which had little arms the phone rested on, there is nothing preventing gravity's pull when the phone is released from the holder, except your hand. Takes a little practice, and sometimes I can't get the phone out in one fell swoop or with one hand, but I also have small enough hands that I can wear children's knit gloves. You might find it not a problem. Overall, I like it and would probably purchase again. versatile
